About DADEL

From DADEL

PILI's Database on Anti-discrimination and Equality Law (DADEL) is a targeted, searchable resource database for human rights advocates seeking information on anti-discrimination law and policy in Europe. DADEL brings together a wide variety of materials, including treaties, declarations, legal cases, and reports, from different inter-governmental organizations, in order to aid lawyers, researchers, and activists in effectively using tools available to combat discrimination and promote equality.

Materials

The materials in DADEL are organised thematically, by grounds of discrimination and by areas in which discrimination may occur.

DADEL includes materials on discrimination on the following eight grounds:

  • age
  • birth
  • disability
  • gender
  • language
  • race and similar descent-based categories
  • religion, belief or political opinion
  • sexual orientation

The materials collected in DADEL focus on discrimination in the following four areas:

  • access to goods and services including housing
  • education
  • employment
  • health and social protections

Documents in the database are divided into three major categories: instruments (treaties and resolutions of international organizations); jurisprudence (decisions of international bodies that adjudicate discrimination cases); and other materials (relevant reports and policy papers). Materials are annotated, and summaries have been provided for cases, in order to highlight aspects pertaining to anti-discrimination.
