COUNCIL DIRECTIVE 2000/43/EC of 29 June 2000 implementing the principle of equal treatment between persons irrespective of racial or ethnic origin

Overview

This directive prohibits racial discrimination in employment, education, health, social protections and access to goods and services. It prohibits both direct and indirect discrimination (Article 2(2)) and defines harassment as amounting to discrimination. Other key provisions of the directive include the shifting of the burden of proof, the prohibition of victimisation and the requirement to create equal treatment bodies at the national level.
