French established law firms and NGOs will share their experience of pro bono within the French environment.

 

This panel will explore the legal needs of NGOs in Europe and the role of pro bono lawyers in addressing them.

 

Representatives of NGOs and European law firms will share their experience in developing pro bono institutions at the national level.

Pro Bono and Combating Poverty and Social Exclusion in Europe
  Pro Bono and Human Rights
  Pro Bono and Micro-financing for Low-income Clients
  Pro Bono and the Environment
  In light of the 2010 EU year for Combating Poverty and Social Exclusion, the panelists will discuss the existing challenges and will suggest ways of overcoming them.
  This workshop will highlight a variety of European initiatives to involve pro bono lawyers in human rights efforts.
  Micro-financing offers many lawyers the possibility of combining pro bono with their field of expertise.
  This contemporary and innovative workshop will bring to the Forum a new and different perspective on the relationship between pro bono and the environment.

  NGO representatives have the opportunity to meet one-on-one with pro bono lawyers and to discuss the legal challenges their organizations face.

14:30 - 15:30  Building the Infrastructure for Cross-border Pro Bono   Building Pro Bono Programs in Mid-sized European Law Firms
  Mobilizing French Lawyers to Engage in NGO Advocacy   Pro Bono for In-house Lawyers
  Developing pro bono work in other jurisdictions implies specific challenges for lawyers, clients and intermediaries alike. This workshop will investigate those various perspectives.
  In setting up a pro bono program, mid-sized European law firms have some unique concerns. Representatives from European law firms will discuss common issues and approaches to pro bono work.
  This workshop will explore opportunities to increase the engagement of French lawyers in the work of international NGOs.
  The discourse on pro bono being made more accessible for in-house lawyers will lead this workshop with emphasis on the importance of pro bono through in-house participation.

  The panelists will explore ways in which European legal education can instill pro bono values.
  The workshop will provide an overview of the varied experiences of existing and newly established European pro bono clearinghouses.
  This workshop will provide an overview of current efforts and future potential for pro bono practice to contribute to the development of the rule of law in China.
